Frequently Asked Questions
What is an accommodation?
An accommodation is simply a change to a job, work environment, or work practice that allows a candidate or associate with a disability to go through the hiring process and perform their job duties.
How do I request an accommodation?
If you’d like to request an accommodation, please reach out to our Applicant Candidate Accommodation Team (ACAT) by sending an email to dls-latam-acat@amazon.com.
When should I request an accommodation during the hiring process?
Whenever you're ready. You can let us know as soon as you apply, which helps our team get things moving quickly. After you pass the assessment and join us, you can request on-the-job accommodations too. We're here to support you at every stage.
What kind of accommodations does Amazon provide applicants?
Specific accommodation types can vary by role and needs. Examples include (but are not limited to): interpreting services, assistive technology such as magnifiers, screen readers, refreshable Braille displays, and speech-to-text software; and alternative headsets.
I would like to request a non-medical accommodation for school, religion, childcare, shift/schedule, transportation. How do I do that?
In these cases, you should speak with your manager or HR once you are hired.
Will asking for an accommodation keep me from getting a job?
Absolutely not! Amazon will consider your qualifications and ability to perform the job with the necessary and reasonable accommodation.
What type of work is offered?
There's a range of roles to choose from — in our warehouses, customer service, and other areas. Each role has different requirements, like lifting or sitting for extended periods, so we encourage you to read the job descriptions and find the position that works best for you. Head to our Jobs Overview page to explore what's available.
Why should I self-disclose a disability on my application if my manager or accommodations consultant cannot see this information?
Self-disclosure is entirely voluntary and separate from requesting accommodations. It helps us better understand the diversity of the people we hire, which allows us to improve our benefits and programs to better serve all associates, including those with disabilities. The information you disclose will remain confidential and won’t affect the hiring decision or your employee experience. You can still make an accommodation request at any time, regardless of whether you choose to self-disclose on your application.
If I disclose having a disability in my application, will that start the accommodation process?
The accommodation process does not start until you make a specific request. If you self-disclose a disability on your application, this information is kept anonymous. Amazon's Candidate Accommodation Team (ACAT) and your hiring manager do not have access to this information, so you will need to request an accommodation by contacting ACAT.
What is the process for requesting an accommodation once I am employed by Amazon?
If you haven’t started Day 1 at Amazon, Amazon's Candidate Accommodation Team (ACAT) will manage your request. Once you are an active employee, this will be processed through a separate team of accommodation consultants and you will need to request your accommodation through MyHR.
What is the PwD quota requirement and how does it affect me as a candidate?
Law No. 8,213/91 is a Brazilian federal law that requires companies with 100 or more employees to reserve a percentage of their workforce for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), on a graduated scale ranging from 2% to 5%. Amazon, as a company with more than 1,000 employees, is required to ensure at least 5% of its workforce at eligible sites is composed of PwD. This means Amazon actively recruits and supports PwD candidates at eligible sites.
What rights do I have if I have a disability?
Under Law No. 8,213/91 and the Statute of Persons with Disabilities (Law No. 13,146/2015), you have the right to:
- Apply to the same job requisitions as all other candidates – you are not limited to separate role;
- Receive the same evaluation and hiring process as general population candidates;
- Access benefits and accommodations tailored to your needs;
- Request workplace accommodations through Amazon's Disability & Leave Services (DLS) team at any stage – this should not adversely affect your hiring process.
